Light rain on Sunday brings relief from heat

New Delhi, May 28: The country's capital was light on Sunday morning. With a minimum temperature settled at 22.5 degrees Celsius on Sunday, the season lowered its temperatures below four feet below average. An official of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said similar weather is expected till Monday. "Partly cloudy sky with light rain and thunderstorm is likely during the day on Sunday. Similar weather conditions are expected till Monday," the official said, adding the maximum temperature is likely to hour around 39 degrees Celsius. 
He said that 11.9 mm rain was recorded at Delhi's Safdarjung observatory followed by 9.8 mm at Lodhi Road, 5.8 mm at Ridge, 1.4 mm at Aya Nagar and 1.1 at Palam. The official said that southeastern wind coming from the Bay of Bengal with moisture, cyclonic circumstances in Haryana and trough crossing from west Rajasthan are the reasons of the sudden rain. The humidity of 87 percent was recorded at 8.30 am. Saturday's maximum temperature was recorded at 40.5 degrees Celsius, the average on this season, the minimum was 29.3 degrees Celsius, three times higher than the season average.
