Two persons held for selling stolen mobile phones after tampering

New Delhi, June 24: Two persons have been arrested for selling expensive stolen mobile phones after changing their IMEI number, police said on Saturday.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Romil Baaniya identified the accused as Mehtab Malik, from Delhi and Praveen Sharma of Uttar Pradesh and added that 65 mobile phones, two laptops, and tools used for changing the International Mobile Equipment Identity number - a unique number given to every mobile phone for identification - number have been seized. 

Acting on a tip off, police arrested the duo travelling in a motorbike near Air Force Station on Friday evening, police said. 

"During interrogation, the duo disclosed that they used to buy stolen mobiles at low rates and change their IMEI number and later sell them at high prices," Baaniya said. 

As IMEI number of phones were changed, investigating agencies were not able to track these phones. 

Police said that two cases have been worked out so far and they trying to solve more cases.
