Rain brings respite from heat in Delhi

New Delhi, June 28 (IANS) Rain in the national capital on Wednesday afternoon brought immediate respite to Delhiites from the last few days' heat and humidity.Mercury went down by five degrees Celsius after the showers, a Meteorological Department official said. 

"The temperature at 11.30 a.m. was 31 degrees Celsius while at 2.30 p.m. it was recorded at 26 degrees Celsius (after the rain)," the official said.The rain began around 1.55 p.m. and it was still pouring at many places in the city. The Safdarjung observatory, whose recording is considered as official for the city, noted 15.4 mm rainfall while other observatories at Palam, Lodhi Road and the Ridge recorded 5.8 mm, 16 mm and 0.2 mm rainfall, respectively. The Ayanagar observatory recorded some traces, an official said. Heavy showers were likely during the night and similar weather would continue for the next four to five days, the Met Office said.
