Fresh Zika Virus reported in Thailand

Bangkok, July 4 (IANS): The Thailands’s Phichit province has reported a total of Eleven people who have been tested positive for the Zika virus and other 27 patients are being monitered, a top official said on Tuesday.


“Laboratory test results showed that there were total 11 infections and all the patients were under treatment” said Phichit Governor Wirasak Wichitsaengsi, as reported by Xinhua news agency.


Health officials have sent special teams to kill mosquitoes in the region to stop the virus from spreading further.


 


Zika is transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito, which causes birth defects.
