BMC?polls: BJP, Congress summon national leaders to promote candidates in Mumbai

Mumbai: With last four days to go before campaigning for the BMC polls concludes, both the BJP and the Congress are bringing in muscle from Delhi to bolster their chances of winning the Mumbai civic elections.

While Union ministers Nitin Gadkari, Purushottam Rupala and MP Manoj Tiwari will be campaigning for BJP candidates in the city, Congress has roped in Digvijay Singh, Jyotiraditya Scindia and Khushboo for campaigning in wards dominated by north and south Indian electorate.

Gadkari would be addressing a rally each at Vile Parle (East) and Reay Road, wards where Marathi-speaking population is dominant , in the evening. While minister of state for agriculture and panchayat raj and Rajya Sabha MP, Parshottam Rupala, will be in Ghatkopar (East) and Goregaon (West), the Gujarati dominated wards. Likewise, Bhojpuri singer, actor and MP from north-east Delhi, Manoj Tiwari, will hold as many as a six rallies in Andheri, Mulund, Ghatkopar, Bhandup and Sakinaka to appease the north Indian community.

For Congress, party’s national general secretary and former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Digvijay Singh would be holding rallies on Friday in pockets of Mumbai where north Indian voters are present in large numbers. Similarly, Jyotiraditya Scindia, MP from Madhya Pradesh,will be part of a roadshow from Andheri to Kurla organised in Thursday. Later, he will interact with a select group of traders and businessmen at a club in Andheri.

Noted Tamil actress and Congress spokesperson Khushboo too is holding a roadshow in Malad (West) on Friday. She will be addressing two rallies for Tamil speaking voters in Dharavi.
