Kolkata, July 11 (SURYAA): Students, teachers, officials and non-teaching stuff of Kolkata's Jadavpur University on Tuesday took out a rally protesting against the recent incidents of communal clashes in West Bengal.

Braving the heavy downpour, more than 1,000 members of various student and teachers organisations associated with the university rallied from Jadavpur police station to Jodhpur Park in south Kolkata protesting the "imposed communalisation of Bengal".

The protesters in the rally shouted anti-communalist slogans and carried placards with messages like "people that follows the religion of riot, are not our friends".

A meeting was held near the Gandhi Bhaban inside the university campus at the end of the rally.

The protest rally was taken out in the wake of recent communal unrest in the pockets of North 24 Parganas district's Basirhat subdivision centering a communally provocative social media post last week.

Though the youth who was involved was arrested and the post deleted, trouble broke out and spread to several areas with trees being felled to put up road blockades, vehicles, including those of the police, torched and houses and shops damaged.
