New Delhi, July 20 (SURYAA): With a 10 kg cake and a special treat of two kg chicken -- his favourite, the National Zoological Park (Delhi zoo) celebrated the tenth birthday of white tiger Vijay here on Thursday.

The white tiger drew nationwide attention after a 2014 incident when a man jumped into his enclosure and was killed.

"There was a lifesize cutout image of Vijay placed in front of his enclosure and people took selfies. We treated the tiger to his favourite food and the cake was cut by the school children," said Riaz Khan, the Delhi zoo PRO.

A "Walk for Vijay" rally was also inaugurated by the Director of the zoo to mark the occasion.

Officials said the purpose of this celebration was to create awareness about tigers.

The celebrity white tiger, which had fathered five cubs in 2015, later enjoyed some solitude, officials said.

"He enjoys chicken, so we treated him with that," said another zoo official.

The tiger feeds on 10 kg buffalo meat in summers and two kg extra meat daily in winters.

"During summers, its fed two kilo less because it consumes lots of water and glucose as well," the officials said.
