New Delhi, Aug 22 (IANS) A man was stabbed to death here with a file poker by a friend inside a police station where the two were brought after a scuffle between them, police said on Tuesday.

The two were brought to Ambedkar Nagar Police Station on Monday night after a call was received from the deceased's wife. "She said their neighbour Vishal was beating her husband," Deputy Commissioner of Police Romil Baaniya told IANS.

The victim was identified as Anil, 36, who worked as a driver.

Police have also taken administrative action for negligence on duty against Sub Inspector Bhram Prakash and Constable Ashok posted at the police station.

"While waiting in IO's (investigating officer's) room, they got into another scuffle. Vishal first attacked him with an iron rod and later stabbed him with file poker, which is used to punch holes in case files," the officer said.

Anil was taken to the AIIMS trauma centre where he was declared brought dead.

"Vishal has been arrested on the charge of murder. The file poker and iron rod used in the crime have been recovered from his possession," Baaniya said.

During questioning, Vishal said he fought with Anil because he had not served alcohol to him on his daughter's birthday in February.

"We have directed the station house officer to report the entire matter to district lines and have also taken administrative action for negligence on duty against Sub Inspector Bhram Prakash and Constable Ashok posted in Ambedkar Nagar," Baaniya said.
