Jammu, Aug 29 (SURYAA): An absconding police officer in Jammu and Kashmir allegedly involved in a murder attempt has been arrested by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the charge, officials said on Tuesday.

Police said here that Sub-Inspector Neeraj Kumar was arrested by the SIT on Monday and is now being questioned for his alleged role in a murder attempt.

Police said Neeraj Kumar connived with his cousin Daleep Kumar, who was in the lockup in Supwal police post of Samba district where Neeraj Kumar was the officer in-charge.

On July 14, Daleep Kumar had escaped from police custody and attacked one Inderjeet Choudhary the same day with murderous intent.

Following preliminary investigation, Neeraj Kumar and two other policemen were placed under suspension.

Immediately after he was placed under suspension, Neeraj Kumar had gone underground to escape questioning and subsequent investigation into the charge of his connivance in the murder attempt.
