Punjab, Haryana procure nearly 40 lakh tonnes paddy
National | IANS | Published :Chandigarh, Oct 7 : Government agencies and private millers have procured 40 lakh tonnes of paddy in agrarian states Punjab and Haryana, food and supplies officials said on Saturday.
In Punjab, nearly 27.5 lakh tonnes of paddy has been procured, bulk (98.2 per cent) of which has been done by government agencies.
In Haryana, nearly 11.5 lakh tonnes of paddy has arrived so far in mandis.
Both states are expecting a bumper paddy crop this season, with Punjab expecting to procure over 180 lakh tonnes of paddy.
