New Delhi, Nov 10 :The Supreme Court on Friday set up a five-judge constitution bench to hear a plea seeking a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the role of a former Orissa High Court judge in a medical admission scam.
The decision by the top court came in response to the plea by the Campaign for Judicial Accountability and Reforms that had sought setting up of a SIT to probe the role of judge I.M. Quddusi in enabling private medical colleges to admit students to MBBS courses despite the Supreme Court barring the institutes from doing so.
The judge was arrested in September and is lodged in Tihar Jail here.
Quddusi, an Orissa High Court judge between 2004 and 2010, has been accused by the CBI of legally guiding the private medical colleges and assuring them of favourable settlement of their cases in the Supreme Court.
