FIFA bans head of Brazilian football federation

Paris, Dec 15 FIFA on Friday suspended the head of the Brazilian football federation Marco Polo Del Nero for 90 days over a breach of its rules.

FIFA ethics committee added that the decision bans Del Nero from any football-related activities during this period, starting immediately, reports Efe

"The duration of the ban may be extended for an additional period not exceeding 45 days. During this time, Mr Polo Del Nero is banned from all football activities at both national and international level. The ban comes into force immediately," the committee said in a statement on Friday.

The 76-year-old Del Nero was accused of accepting a 6.5 million euro ($7.6 million) commission.

In the wake of these accusations, the ethics committee opened an inquiry that led to his suspension.

A corruption scandal rocked the FIFA in May 2015, when the United States' justice authorities issued arrest warrants for senior officials during their stay at Zurich.

Antonio Carlos Nunes, one of the current vice-presidents is set to be the Brazilian soccer federation head, according to the soccer governing body.
