Reports on Parrikar's shifting to US baseless: Goa BJP MP

Panaji, Feb 19 : Contrary to Goa Assembly Deputy Speaker Michael Lobo's statement that ailing Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar could be shifted to the US for treatment if required, South Goa MP Narendra Savoikar said on Monday that news on his treatment abroad were "false and baseless".

"Parrikar is admitted at the Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai and is responding to treatment. He is being treated by the best of medical experts and as per the information his condition is stable. Further, news that he is being flown to the US for further treatment is totally false and baseless," the MP said.

Earlier in the day, Lobo -- a BJP MLA -- had said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had authorised for shifting of Parrikar to the US for further treatment, if needed.

Parrikar was rushed to the Mumbai hospital on February 15 following stomach pain and was, according to the Chief Minister's Office, diagnosed for inflamed pancreas.

"Everything is finally in God's hands. But the PM said that whatever needs to be done, if he needs to be taken out of India to the US, should be done," Lobo told reporters at the Assembly complex.

Modi, during a daylong official visit to Mumbai on Sunday, visited the Mumbai hospital to meet his former Cabinet colleague and enquired about his health.
