New Delhi, March 23 : President Pranab Mukherjee on Thursday said auditors should play an important role in making nations meet their commitments on environment treaties.

The audit institutions also have an important role to play in ensuring the nations leverage technology to provide high-quality services to citizens, the President said.

Mukherjee was speaking at the 23rd Commonwealth Auditors' General Conference, held from March 21-23 to discuss the role of technology in public audit.

The President said it is praiseworthy that the delegates are engaging in fruitful deliberations on two very relevant contemporary themes chosen for the conference -- leveraging technology and environment audit.

The Comptroller and Auditor General of India office hosted the conference.

The last such conference was held in Malta in 2014.
