Sharad meets Akhilesh, seeks opposition unity

Lucknow:  Former Janata Dal-United (JD-U) leader Sharad Yadav met Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav here on Tuesday and called for a Grand Alliance of all opposition parties to bring down the Modi government.

He stressing on the need for opposition parties to come together.

"The country is going through testing times. Small traders have been devastated following demonetization and the Prime Minister continues to make false promises and UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is busy visiting temples," he told the media.

He hailed the Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) for defeating the BJP in its stronghold Gorakhpur and also in Phulpur in the Lok Sabha by-elections. 

"I urge all political parties believing in secularism to work together to save the country and the Constitution and I think the understanding between the SP and BSP is the beginning of a Grand Alliance."
