CWG 2018: India's medal winners

India won a historic gold in badminton mixed-team event at Commonwealth Games 2018, thrashing three-time defending champions Malaysia in the final in Gold Coast, Australia. Saina Nehwal led a long, intense battle against Soniia Cheah to give India the top position.

India swept the table tennis team events at the 21st Commonwealth Games after the men’s team clinched gold with an emphatic win over Nigeria. The men’s side capped off their 3-0 win, a day after the women’s team stunned Singapore.

Jitu Rai created a new Commonwealth Games record and returned to winning ways by snapping up the gold medal at CWG 2018.

Commonwealth Games debutant Mehuli Ghosh came agonisingly close to winning gold as she failed to beat Singapore’s Martina Lindsay Veloso in a shoot-off in the women’s 10m Air Rifle finals. She returns home with a silver.

Defending gold-medallist Apurvi Chandela’s run came to an end in 10m air rifle after she shot a series of nine-plus pointers to take home the bronze medal.

Jitu Rai's compatriot Om Mitharval, 22, equalled the qualification games record to win a bronze in the men’s 10m Air Pistol event.

Pardeep Singh missed out on the opportunity to claim India’s eighth gold medal at the 21st Commonwealth Games. He came agonisingly close to finishing on top of the podium in the men’s 105kg category, but eventually settled for a silver in a closely contested event.

Indian women's table tennis team shocked Singapore 3-1 to claim its first ever gold medal at the Commonwealth Games 2018 in Gold Coast.

Punam Yadav, a bronze-medallist in the 63kg category at the 2014 Glasgow edition, lifted a personal best of 222kg (110kg+122kg) to claim the top spot ahead of England's Sarah Davies, who finished with 217kg (95kg+122kg).

India's Manu Bhaker won her nation's sixth gold medal at this year's Games, notching a Games record score of 240.9 to win the women's 10m air pistol finals.

India's Heena Sidhu shot 379/400 to come in second after Manu Bhaker, winning silver in 10m air pistol finals. She had also won a silver at the Delhi Games in 2010.

Indian shooter Ravi Kumar won the bronze medal in the men's 10m air rifle event at the 21st Commonwealth Games.

Vikas Thakur added a shade of bronze to Indian weightlifters' golden run at the Commonwealth Games, claiming the third position in the 94kg category by equalling his personal best.

Weightlifters added more gold medals to India's medal tally after day three. Sathish Kumar Sivalingam began day 3 by repeating his feat from the Glasgow Games by winning gold in the 77kg men’s weightlifting. He lifted a total 317kg (144kg+173kg) and was so ahead of the competition that he forfeited his final clean and jerk lift in Gold Coast on Saturday.

Sivalingam’s success was soon followed up by Rahul Venkat Ragala later in the day in the men’s weightlifting 85kg category. This took India’s gold medal tally to four, all of them coming from the weightlifting contingent. He lifted a total of 338kg (151kg+187kg) to finish on top.

Putting behind her disappointment at the Rio 2016 Olympics, India’s Chanu Saikhom Mirabai blew away her competition on Thursday and went on to set a new Commonwealth Games record in the women’s 48kg weightlifting. On her way to clinch India’s first gold at the Gold Coast event, Chanu had not only pulled off clean lifts but also broke the games record in quick succession in all her three attempts. While in the snatch event, Chanu posted 80kg, 84kg and 86kg, in the clean and jerk she lifted more than double her body weight (103kg, 107kg and 110kg).

P Gururaja struck silver medal in Gold Coast in the men’s 56kg final with a total lift of 249kg. He lifted 111kg in snatch and then 138kg in clean and jerk to win the silver medal for India. Gururaja failed to lift the weight of 138kg in his first two attempts but managed to lift it in his final attempt to secure the medal.

Sanjita Chanu struck her second consecutive gold medal on the 2nd day of the CWG 2018 at Gold Coast. The Manipuri athlete created a CWG record in Snatch, lifting a total of 84 kg, and then lifted 108 kg on her way to get to a total lift of 192 kg.

Deepak Lather became India’s youngest weightlifter to win a Commonwealth Games medal after he won the bronze medal in men’s 69kg weight category at CWG 2018 in Gold Coast on Friday. Hailing from Haryana, the 18-year-old lifted a total of 295kg (136kg+159kg) to finish third.
