Parents blame minors cancer on abortion pills fed by 8 teachers who raped her

When the parents of 13-year-old Nisha (name changed) sent her to this private school in Bikaner district, they probably wanted her to get the education required to secure a bright future.

Fate, however, had something different in mind for her. Today, the girl lies in a hospital bed, sexually violated and fighting an incurable disease allegedly brought about by the same people who were expected to mentor her.

Nisha’s parents have alleged that she contracted cancer due to forced administration of abortion and contraceptive pills by eight teachers who raped her on several occasions since April 2015. Bikaner police recorded her statement on Saturday.

The girl reportedly told superintendent of police Amandeep Singh Kapoor that the accused – employed at the school in Sajanvasi village – gang-raped her after asking her to stay back for “extra classes”. They allegedly made a video of the act, and threatened to circulate it if she reported the matter to anybody.

That was just the start. Nisha was sexually assaulted repeatedly over the next year and a half. As days went by, the girl became pregnant. She was then forced to consume abortion pills, which reportedly caused a cancerous growth in her body.

Police lodged an FIR on Friday, and the accused have been summoned to the police station for questioning. The investigation is being handled by Nokha deputy superintendent of police Banwarilal.

“Earlier, some villagers had tried to resolve the matter through a mutual settlement. However, now that the victim’s father has filed a complaint, an FIR has been lodged under section 376-D (gang-rape) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act,” Kapoor told HT.

On March 20, one of the accused teachers had lodged an FIR against two cousins of the victim for allegedly assaulting him. The police are investigating both the cases, even as Nisha is being treated at a local hospital.

Police sources told HT that about a year ago, the girl was forced to do “400-500 sit-ups” by the accused for arriving late to school. The harsh punishment caused severe injuries on her legs.
