India in touch with Afghan authorities over Indians' abduction

New Delhi, May 6 (IANS) India is in touch with authorities in Afghanistan following the abduction of six Indian nationals there on Sunday, an official said.

"We are aware of the abduction of Indian nationals from Baghlan province in Afghanistan. We are in contact with the Afghan authorities and further details are being ascertained," External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said.

The six Indians, along with an Afghan, all employees of Indian company KEC, were abducted from Baghlan's Bagh-e-Shamal village, TOLO News reported.

According to local officials, the incident occurred while the employees were travelling to the area where the company has a contract for an electricity sub-station.

The Baghlan provincial council linked the incident to the Taliban, who have not commented.
