Iran launches 2nd phase of gas condensate refinery

Tehran  :   Iran's President Hassan Rouhani on Thursday inaugurated Phase 2 of Gulf Star Refinery (PGSR), the official IRNA news agency reported.

Rouhani attended the ceremony of launching the gas condensate refinery in the country's port city of Bandar Abbas.

With the launch of the project, the refinery's production capacity of Euro 5 gasoline will reach 24 million litres a day from the current 12 million litres. 

According to Tasnim news agency, the third and final phase of the project is expected to come on stream by the end of March 2019.

Once the third phase comes into operation, the refinery's daily production capacity will reach 36 million litres a day of Euro 5 gasoline as well as 14 million litres of light and heavy diesel, 3 million litres of jet fuel, 4 million litres of gas condensates, 130 tonnes of solid sulphur and 425 tonnes of hydrogen, the report said.

The project is estimated to be completed at a cost of approximately $3.4 billion.
