Prague (Czech Republic)  :  Czech Republic's national football coach Karel Jarolim has resigned from his post following back-to-back international defeats, the Czech football association said on Tuesday.

On Monday, the Czech Republic was thrashed 5-1 by host Russia in a friendly match, four days after losing their UEFA Nations League home opener against Ukraine 2-1, reports Efe.

"I deserve a public execution. The team is going to need a new boost. Everything will be known soon," Jarolim, 62, had said on Monday following the loss to Russia.

The Czech football association's statement on Tuesday stressed that Jarolim is to leave by mutual agreement, taking into consideration the poor results and performance of the national team during its last two matches.

Jarolim was named head coach in August 2016, and was tasked with getting the team promoted to League A in the UEFA Nations League tournament, after his squad failed to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Jarolim's possible substitutes include former SK Slavia Prague manager Jaroslav Silhavy, the Czech national team's under-21 coach Vitezslav Lavicka and the under-20 coach Karel Krejci.
