Tibetan PM-in-exile greets Japanese Prime Minister

Dharamsala, Sep 21 : Tibetan Prime Minister-in-exile Lobsang Sangay on Friday congratulated Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on his re-election as head of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party of Japan.

Abe won the Thursday election, with a landslide vote of 553 out of a total of 807, setting him on course to become the longest-serving Prime Minister in the country's history. The 63-year-old Abe has been the Prime Minister since December 2012.

"I, on behalf of the Central Tibetan Administration, heartily congratulate you on being re-elected as the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party, paving the way for you to become the longest-serving Prime Minister of Japan," Sangay said.

"Your re-election to the crucial post of the party leader is a reflection of your leadership and integrity in shaping positive developments in Asia and the world."

He added: "I am very appreciative of your support for the middle-way approach proposed by the Dalai Lama, which I continue to believe is the best way for us to ensure a solution that is beneficial for both Tibetans and Chinese."

The Dalai Lama has lived in India since fleeing his homeland in 1959. The Tibetan exile administration is based here.
