Bhopal, Feb 13 (IANS) Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan met his successor Kamal Nath at the state secretariat here on Wednesday to discuss issues like problems of farmers and the law and order in the state.

Chauhan later told reporters that he drew the chief minister's attention to the confusion among farmers regarding loan waivers and asked him to waive loans of up to Rs 2 lakh. "I also sought compensation for farmers whose crops were damaged due to hail and frost," he said.

Referring to transfer of officials following the change of regime, Chauhan said the numbers were astonishing and the government must pay attention to improving the law and order.

Calling Madhya Pradesh an "island of peace", Chauhan said, "It's not like crime was unheard of in the last dispensation. But the kind of crimes that are being reported now, is serious. If these are not prevented, criminal elements that had been crushed will raise their heads again."

According to Chauhan, he also asked Nath to carry forward work started by the last government.
