Bhubaneswar, May 18: The Orissa Assembly on Thursday approved a two-day Special Meeting, approving the State Goods and Services Tax (GST) Bill and amending the value added tax (VAT). Odisha Finance Minister Shashi Bhusan Behera moved the two bills home. However, the Opposition leader Narayan Mishra suggested to the Business Advisory Committee after the bill was passed on Wednesday only to legislators.

"It took 11 years to pass the GST Bill in Parliament. However, we did not take 11 hours to analyse the bill. Each of the word needs to be interpreted. The bill was circulated yesterday (Wednesday) night only and you expect a discussion," said Mishra. He asked Speaker Pradip Amat to refer the bills to the Business Advisory Committee. After the committee meeting to discuss the GST bill, the house was postponed until 3 pm. In particular, a workshop on GST was held on Wednesday, some of which did not understand some of the proposals of proposed legislation.
