HC recommends task force to curb Delhi's air pollution

New Delhi, May 18:  The Delhi High Court on Thursday recommended setting up a standing task force to tackle increasing air pollution in the national capital.

A division bench of Justice S. Ravindra Bhat and Justice Pratibha M. Singh posted the matter for July 4 and sought names for setting up the task force.

The bench opined that instead of the court issuing directions from time to time to bring down air pollution, the task force can do so as well as monitor the progress.

The court was hearing a public interest litigation initiated by it on the issue of increasing air pollution in Delhi.

The court had earlier expressed serious concern over increasing air pollution what is "akin to living in a gas chamber", asked the central and city governments to act strongly to curb pollution.
