Presidential elections in Iran today

Tehran: Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has once again stepped in to secure the post. The presidential election will be held on Friday. Since 1981, he has been president and no one has ever lost the contest for that seat. The Guardian's Council of 12 members will nominate candidates contesting for the presidency of Iran.

The political analysts expect Rouhani to top the four candidates nominated for the contest. However, if any of the votes do not get more than fifty percent of the votes, the two candidates who have the highest number of votes will contest again after a week. Like in other countries, the President does not have full powers in Iran. The head of the religious leader selected by the Religious Council. He is the ultimate decision on all matters.
