Trinamool to collect 30,000 litres of blood through camps

Kolkata, May 19:  West Bengal's ruling Trinamool Congress would hold political workers' meet in every block and organise blood donation camps to mark the completion of the first year of its second term of office, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced here on Friday.


Banerjee, also the Trinamool chief, said the blood donation camps would be organised from May 27 to June 10 camps targeting collection of 30,000 litres to counter the blood crisis in summer months.

"Because there is dearth of blood in summer, Kolkata Police and state Police will donate around 20,000 litres of blood and we have told our workers that from May 27 to June 10, to launch blood donation camp. 

"We will collect 30,000 litres and in total we hope to get 50, 000 litres," she said at the end of an extended party core committee meeting which was attended by her cabinet ministers and 1,000 workers.

Banerjee expressed gratitude to the people for her party completing six years at the helm.

The Trinamool supremo stormed to power on May 13, 2011 uprooting the 34-year-long reign of the Left Front. The first Trinamool Congress ministry led by Banerjee took the oath on May 20, 2011 and was sworn in for the second time on May 27 last year after retaining power in the assembly polls.

"From May 27 to June 27, Trinamool will organise cultural and social programmes across the state. From May 27 to July 27, political workers' meets will be organised in every district. Then from June 27 to July 17, political conferences will be held in every block," said Banerjee.
