Mamata paid tribute to Rajiv Gandhi

Kolkata, May 21: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee paid homage to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi at his 26th death anniversary. She said she always remembers about her "premature death". "Today we lost a great leader in 1991, the day I can never forget, the shock and the pain on my premature death always in my mind," Banerjee posted on a social media website.

The Trinamool Congress supremo expressed her condolences to Congress President and Rajiv's widow Sonia Gandhi and their two children Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi. Rajiv Gandhi was murdered in 1991 by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) during the election rally in Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu. He served as Prime Minister from October 31, 1984 to December 2, 1989.
