New Delhi, May 24: Three Delhi Police personnel were suspended from service and a Home Guard relieved of his duties for allegedly brutally assaulting and giving third-degree treatment to a property dealer, a police officer said on Wednesday.

Those suspended are Assistant Sub Inspector Satish Kumar, Head Constable Ratan Singh and Constable Kailash Singh, all posted in Prashant Vihar police station of west Delhi.

"After they were accused of brutally assaulting property dealer Amit Jindal in police custody, we suspended the three and initiated a departmental inquiry against them. The victim's family members had lodged a complaint against them," Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Rishi Pal said.

Home Guard jawan Ajay Kumar, who was also with them in the alleged torture of the property dealer, has also been relieved of his duties, according to the DCP.

Amit, 30, had on Saturday accused four policemen of brutally assaulting him after his car accidentally hit a patrol motorcycle in Rohini area.

The victim said he was returning home after attending a function around 1.30 a.m. on Friday when his car hit the police motorcycle in Rohini's Sector 11 -- the locality where he resides.

"Amit stopped and stepped out of his car to help Ajay who was riding the bike. In the meantime, Ratan and Satish arrived on the spot and caught hold of him. They later took him to the police station where he was given third-degree treatment at night," Pal said.

Demanding suspension of the accused policemen, some local residents from Rohini also protested before the Prashant Vihar police station.
