New Delhi, May 30: Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapati Raju said on Tuesday that his ministry fully cooperates with the CBI investigation into allegations of corruption and abuse that led to the financial crisis in Air India, the national airline of India. "We are fully cooperating with the CBI in this regard," he said in a press conference during the interaction. The next day, the minister filed the three cases against the Ministry of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Air India.
The case involves the purchase of 111 Boeing aircraft worth Rs 70,000 crore and alleged corruption in handing over international airline routes to private airlines during the UPA regime. Apart from the Civil Aviation Ministry and Air India officials, the CBI has also booked some unnamed private companies in its FIRs lodged under sections of criminal conspiracy and cheating of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act. FIRs do not specify any public authorities. The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report submitted to the Parliament in 2011 was based on a report by the Parliament's Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
