Sri Lanka defends readiness to deal with natural disasters

Colombo, May 30: On Tuesday, 184 people were killed by defending the sanctions on Sri Lanka floods and landslides. Sri Lanka was surprised by heavy rains and floods and landslides, said Cancet spokesman Rajitha Senaratne. Still the situations are not reuned. He said that early warnings had been issued for areas prone to landslides but some people disregarded them. Meanwhile, the UN said that based on previous emergencies, drinking water and non-food items (NFIs) were identified as immediate needs by the National Disaster Relief Services Centre in Sri Lanka. The full extent of damage and what is needed is expected to become more clear once additional areas become accessible. The Disaster Management Center of Sri Lanka has activated the International Space Charter Center to obtain satellite imagery for flood damage analysis. Cloud coverage, however, prevents the collection of images.
