Three Maoists nabbed in Dantewada

Dantewada, May 30 (IANS) Security forces on Tuesday ambushed a Maoist camp and nabbed three militants after a brief gunfight in Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh, police said.

The three Maoists had Rs 100,000 each on their heads. 

Giving details of the operation, Superintendent of Police Kamal Lochan Kashyap told reporters that security forces came upon a Maoist camp in Hiroli hill, after which the militants panicked and started firing and running along with the villagers.

After a 15-minute gun fight police was able to nab three Maoists. One of them was identified as Hunga, also known as Banjar, who had 13 cases registered against him. He was president of the Janata Sarkar Range Committee.

Kashyap said: "The cases registered against Banjar include public disobedience, assault, theft along with the charge of murder of a public representative, Vijay. The other two arrested are Lakhma Kunjam and Hidma Kunjam, who too have several cases registered against them. They are also members of the Jan Militia."

Banjar told police that he has been part of the Maoists for over 15 years and played a major role in many conspiracies.

In another incident, Kuwakonda police on tip off by an informer arrested Jan Militia member a woman militant, Kunjami Huray. There are eight cases registered against her, which include murder and attempt to murder. She has been working with the Maoists for a decade.
