Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh and husband of Queen Elizabeth II, has been hospitalised as a precautionary measure, Buckingham Palace said on Wednesday.
He was being treated at the King Edward VII Hospital for an infection arising from a pre-existing condition, BBC reported. The 96-year-old British royal consort was taken in for treatment on Tuesday evening.
The announcement of the hospitalisation came on the same day as the Queen was expected to set out the plans for the new Conservative government of Prime Minister Theresa May.
