New Delhi, Oct 24 (IANS) Delhi Police on Tuesday claimed to have busted a gang by arresting two accused, who were involved in stealing valuable items of the families of senior citizens in the garb of providing medical attendant services at patient’s residences, an officer said.
The accused were identified as Rinku Kumar alias Ankit Kumar a.k.a Kallu (33) and Pramod Kumar (38), both residents of district Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh.
According to police, a complainant, a resident of West Patel Nagar, Delhi, alleged that on October 9, they hired one Ankit as a medical attendant for their 85-year-old father-in-law.
On October 11, her mother-in-law was shocked to find that Ankit had stolen all the jewellery and cash and ran away from their house. On checking, it emerged that Ankit (medical attendant) had stolen huge cash along with all their jewellery articles.
During the investigation, CCTV footage for the date and time of the incident was collected and analysed.
“Upon analysing the CCTV footage, it was observed that two individuals, one wearing a mask and the other disguising themselves approached the residence of the complainant. One of them entered the residence, while the second individual positioned themselves outside to keep watch,” said the Special Commissioner of Police (crime) Ravindra Singh Yadav.
Based on the CCTV footage, photographs of the accused duo involved in the current incident were printed and shared with confidential informants.
“The investigative team worked diligently, utilising technical analysis and information gathered from various sources, and successfully identified the suspects as Rinku and Pramod,” said the Special CP.
A raid was carried out at the residence of the accused, Rinku Kumar, also known as Ankit Kumar or Kallu, resulting in his apprehension.
Acting on information provided by Rinku, the co-accused, Pramod, was arrested at his residence.
During the interrogation process, Rinku, the accused, revealed that he obtained information about individuals and businesses offering medical attendants through Just Dial.
“These individuals were seeking medical assistance for their elderly parents or ailing family members. Rinku and Pramod revealed that they deliberately concealed their identities by wearing masks and disguises, citing medical reasons such as bacterial infections and patient safety,” said Yadav.
However, their true intention was to conceal their identities. Pramod disclosed that while Rinku Kumar provided services inside the homes of their targets, he maintained surveillance outside the premises.
