Volkswagen Tiguan and new Passat coming to India in 2017

Hyderabad Feb 23 : With Korean manufacturers like Hyundai strengthening the crossover and SUV portfolio, German automaker Volkswagen is working on bringing a few of its global line-up of products to the India market. Out the new lineup, Volkswagen is expected to bring along the all new Passat sedan and the Tiguan SUV which according to the brand, will help it reach a wider audience.


Commenting on the move, Michael Mayer, Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars India said, “2017 marks 10 years for Volkswagen in India and at this opportune moment, we reiterate our commitment with a strong product line-up aimed at fostering our growth momentum in the country. With the successful launch of the Ameo and introduction of GTI recently, Volkswagen marked its presence in the Compact Sedan and Performance car segment. With exciting new products across the segments, we are now ready to enter the SUV segment with Tiguan and luxury segment with the all new Passat.”


The Volkswagen Tiguan SUV is powered by a 2.0-litre TDI engine that is paired to a 7-speed DSG gearbox. The vehicle is a blend of luxury and sportiness which means that performance is key. Volkswagen will bring in the second generation of the Tiguan SUV which so far has been the best-selling SUV in its class in European markets.


The Passat sedan also comes with a similar powertrain that includes a 2.0-litre TDI engine that is mated to a 6-speed DSG transmission. The sedan comes with a ton safety features and this would include nine airbags in all. Other upgrades in the new Passat include a new entertainment system.The Volkswagen Tiguan was recently spotted during testing in Pune, hinting that the launch is nearby.
