Chennai, Aug 14 : The Tamil Nadu government should hang its head in shame over the death of two persons in a hospital in Vellore district due to the absence of doctors, PMK founder Anbumani Ramadoss said on Monday.

The Ambur Government Hospital, around 190 km from here, should have at least 10 doctors on duty at all times, he said.

"It is highly condemnable that yesterday (Sunday) nobody was on duty. The hospital employees turned down patients as there were no doctors."

On Sunday, two injured persons were brought to the hospital.

"Since no doctors were available in the emergency ward, one of the injured, identified as industrialist Rajkumar, died after two hours," Ramadoss said.

Similarly, a 13-year-old girl Vaishnavi was admitted in the hospital also on Sunday for breathing difficulties.

"A doctor attended to her later but she lost her life," Ramadoss said.

According to the leader, the hospital did not have mortuary van. The girl's body was taken home on a two wheeler.

"The loss of lives due to a shortage of doctors is more pathetic than what had happened in a government hospital in Uttar Pradesh where 63 children lost their lives due to lack of oxygen," Ramadoss added.
