Union Minister and actor Suresh Gopi is facing criticism again, this time for speaking harshly to an elderly woman during a public meeting in his Thrissur constituency on Wednesday.
In a video now shared widely online, the woman approached Gopi for help related to the Karuvannur bank scam, where many people lost their life savings. The case is currently being investigated by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
When she asked for assistance, Gopi told her to approach the Chief Minister, saying the ED had already seized assets in the case.
“Don’t talk too much. Ask your MLA or minister here, or go to the CM,” he said.
When the woman said she didn’t know how to reach the CM, Gopi responded,
“And now you blame me?”
When she reminded him that he was also her minister, Gopi replied,
“I’m a minister for the country.”
The woman later told reporters she felt hurt by his words.
“I expected a kind word from him. He could have just said he’d look into it.”
She also recalled that during his election campaign, Gopi had promised that all Karuvannur bank depositors would get their money back.
This incident follows a recent controversy where Gopi refused to take a petition from another elderly man asking for help building a house. He defended himself then, saying he avoids making promises he can’t keep.
Many on social media and in the local community are now questioning Gopi’s attitude toward the people who voted for him.
