Manama, Nov 1 : Bahrain's High Criminal Court has sentenced 10 defendants to life in jail and revoked their Bahraini citizenship on terror charges.
One of the defendant was additionally sentenced to one month in jail for illegally possessing a sword.
"All ten terrorists were convicted on charges of organizing and managing a terrorist group contrary to the provisions of the law, possessing explosives and tools used in making firearms for terror purposes and training in the use of weapons and explosives for the purpose of committing terrorist crimes in Bahrain," said Terror Crime Prosecution Chief Advocate General Ahmed Al Hammadi on Tuesday, Xinhua reported.
"They were trained on how to use weapons and explosives in committing terrorist crimes in the kingdom," he added.
Investigations revealed that an individual recruited Bahrainis and sent them to Iraq and Iran to receive military training on how to use weapons and explosives.
"The individual formed a terrorist group inside Bahrain to carry out terrorist attacks inside the kingdom," Hammadi said. "He tasked them to receive shipments of weapons and materials to use in manufacturing explosives."
The official said when the suspects were arrested, various materials and devices used in manufacturing explosives were found and seized from their homes.
