Firozabad: Workers of Bharatiya Janata Party Yuva Morcha (BJPYM) were booked for assaulting two Muslim men and police officer, The Times of India reported.
The incident happened on Saturday at a bus stop near Gandhi Park in Uttar Pradesh’s Firozabad district.
According to reports, the two youths identified as Imran Hussain and his friend Shahjir Alam gone out to buy medicines when the accused include Dheeraj Parashar, Uday Thakur and Lucky Garg along with a group of 20 other unidentified men attacked them for wearing skull caps.
The unruly men with political backing in an inebriated state did not even spare the SHO Lokesh Bhati, who intervened to prevent an escalation of violence close to burning like Kasganj.
The SHO was slapped and verbally abused in public.
Firozabad superintendent of police Rajesh Kumar Singh said, “Lucky and group attacked the two men just because they were wearing skull caps. The politically well-connected goons abused the two men, who were on their way to buy medicines, and told them to leave the country. The assailants did not even spare the SHO. If these men can assault a police officer in public, imagine what they can do with the public.”
That not enough. A senior BJP leader intervened and pleaded with the senior officers to let off his men.
A video of Nanak Chand Agrawal, elder brother of BJP national general secretary Anil Jain seen pleading with cops not file FIR against the accused has turned up on social media.
Speaking to TOI, Kumar Singh said that pressure is being mounted on them to transfer SHO Lokesh after the incident.
“SHO Lokesh Bhati, is a hero, who risk his life to save those Muslim youths in a bid to prevent another Kasganj-like clash. He should be rewarded not transferred,” said Kumar Singh.
According to records, Lucky Garg was booked for attempting to murder a government officer in Dakshin police jurisdiction in 2010.
A police complaint by SHO Bhati against 20 unidentified persons under various sections of the IPC have been booked and efforts are being made to nab the culprits.
