Guwahati: A huge cache of arms and ammunition was recovered from a train in Assam's Dibrugarh district on Monday evening, police said.
The police in Dibrugarh said that the arms and ammunition were recovered from Amritsar Express around 5.30 p.m.
"The Amritsar Express arrived at the Banipur railway station in the upper Assam district around 5 p.m on Monday," police said.
"During the cleaning of train, the safari workers spotted two abandoned bags from below the seat of a general compartment," the police said, adding that they were intimated by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) immediately after spotting the arms and ammunition.
"It included 264 rounds of live ammunition including 147 rounds of AK 47 ammunition, one 9 mm pistol and some parts of revolvers and single-barrel guns," said the police.
It was a general compartment and so the particular seat was not allotted to any particular individual, police said.
