Kabul   : A US Congress delegation led by Minority Leader of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi has met Afghanistan's President Ashraf Ghani and CEO Abdullah Abdullah, officials said on Thursday.

The delegation arrived in Kabul on Wednesday night. During the meeting, Pelosi assured the Afghan leaders of Washington's commitment to Kabul in fighting insurgency, a statement by the President's office said.

According to the statement cited by Tolo News, Ghani told the delegation that US President Donald Trump's new policy for South Asia and Afghanistan brought a "positive mood" and brought Kabul and Washington closer to their goals.

Abdullah, meanwhile, said at the meeting that US' cooperation over destroying the "common enemies" of Kabul and Washington was "helpful".

No further details were provided about Pelosi's visit or how long she was expected to stay in Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, another senior US official Alice G. Wells, the principal deputy assistant secretary for South and Central Asia at the US State Department, was in Pakistan on an official visit, Geo News reported.
