Over 40 hours later, no trace of DND accident victim, car driver

New Delhi, May 28 (IANS) More than 40 hours after a man riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle was flung into the Yamuna river from the Delhi Noida Direct (DND) flyway, there was neither any trace of him nor of the driver of the car which hit his bike, police said on Monday.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Chinmoy Biswal said that neither the person riding the Harley Davidson (DL8S CH 1887) nor the driver of the car (Dl9C AE 0946) had been traced. He said police were trying to ascertain their whereabouts from their respective families.

Police also said that six teams were investigating and scanning CCTV footage obtained from the company managing the DND toll plaza to crack the case.

"Search operation in the Yamuna is continuing since the accident around 3 a.m. on Sunday, but NDRF, local divers and police have failed to find any body," Deputy Commissioner of Police Chinmoy Biswal said.

"We are also checking records of all hospitals of National Capital Region, including Delhi, to see if any accident victim has been admitted there. So far, we have no lead in this case. We suspect that both the biker and car driver were injured and may approach hospitals for treatment in case the bike rider was not thrown into the river," Biswal said.

The man riding the Harley-Davidson had gone missing after he was flung into the Yamuna when his bike was rammed by the speeding car from behind on the DND flyway, police said.

The car driver had fled the spot after leaving his vehicle behind, which was seized. The accident occurred on the road from Noida to Delhi, an eyewitness had said, adding that the motorcycle's rear and the car's front portion were badly damaged.

Police had roped in local divers and a team from the National Disaster Response Force to look for the missing biker in the river water but have not met with success till the filing of the report on Monday. 

Based on the registration number, police went to House number 92 in K block of Sarita Vihar on Sunday to look for one Anshuman Puri, in whose name the two-wheeler was registered, but found the house locked. 

A neighbour told police that Puri was living alone.

The car is registered in the name of one Bhappa Singh of Qutub Vihar in Goyala Dairy area. His house was also found locked. 

Neighbours said that while Singh lives in Canada, his daughter and son-in-law live at the given address and use the car," the officer said.

A case of rash and negligent driving was registered at the Sunlight Colony police station.
