Moscow, April 5 : Up to 212,000 tickets for matches of the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup in Russia have been sold as of Wednesday, the world governing body of football FIFA announced.
"211,745 FIFA Confederations Cup tickets had been sold via FIFA.com/tickets by the time the first-come, first-served sales phase came to an end at 12:00 CET today (Wednesday) (13:00 Moscow time)," the FIFA said in its statement, Tass news agency reported.
"As at previous editions of the FIFA Confederations Cup, the majority of ticket requests have come from the host country, but foreign fans have also shown increased interest, particularly those from Chile who have requested 7,111 tickets so far," according to the statement.
Ticket sales will restart on April 19 when the Last Minute Sales phase kicks off, according to the release.
"In addition to these online sales, supporters will then also have the opportunity to purchase tickets at the FIFA Venue Ticketing Centres that will open on the same day in all four FIFA Confederations Cup host cities -- Saint Petersburg, Sochi, Kazan and Moscow," the statement added.
The tournament will run from June 17 to July 2.
