Modi inaugurates 'Parakram Parv' in Jodhpur

Jodhpur, Sep 28 (IANS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated "Parakram Parv" organised by the Konark Corps here to commemorate the second anniversary of the surgical strikes across the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Prime Minister was accompanied by Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Gajendra Singh Shekhawat.

From Jodhpur airport, Modi went straight to Konark War Memorial where he offered floral tributes to the martyrs of 1965, 1971 and other wars and observed a two-minute silence. 

Earlier in the day, Sitharaman and Raje also paid homage to the martyrs at the war memorial.

The Prime Minister then went to the Konark Stadium where he inaugurated the Parakram Parva on the second anniversary of the surgical strike.

In the visitor's book, he wrote: "Our country is proud of our forces who are purely dedicated to the security of our motherland".

After that, in an open jeep, Prime Minister Modi went around an exhibition of armoured squads, weapons and equipment in the stadium. He was accorded a guard of honour there. 

Thousands of visitors flocked to the stadium to have a look of the defence equipment on display. They were also seen taking selfies with the displayed weapons and equipment.

The modern defence equipment such as tank, artillery and radar were showcased on the occasion. The displayed weapons included rocket launcher Pinaka, multi-barrel rocket launch system, Arjun Tank, strike vehicles and Rudra aircraft, among many others.

The exhibition shall remain open to people from 9.00 a.m to 12 p.m and again from 4.00 p.m to 7.00 p.m on September 29-30.
