Mercury up in Punjab, Haryana despite rains

Chandigarh, Jan 8 (IANS) The minimum temperatures in Punjab and Haryana rose marginally on Wednesday despite overnight rains that lashed several parts of both the states.

Pathankot, which recorded a low of 9.4 degrees Celsius, in Punjab experienced the highest rainfall of 65 mm.

Chandigarh, the joint capital of Punjab and Haryana, recorded a minimum temperature of 10.7 degrees Celsius. It witnessed 22.9 mm rainfall.

In Punjab, Amritsar, Ludhiana and Patiala recorded their respective lows at 7.6 degrees, 10.1 degrees and 11.5 degrees Celsius, a Meteorological Department official told IANS.

Amritsar, Ludhiana and Patiala recorded 4.2 mm, 1.7 mm and 9 mm rainfall, respectively.

In Haryana, Hisar, Karnal, Narnaul, Rohtak and Bhiwani registered their respective minimum at 11.2 degrees Celsius, 11.4 degrees, 11 degrees, 10.8 degrees and 9.2 degrees Celsius, up to three notches above normal.

Ambala witnessed 12.6 mm of rainfall, while Karnal recorded 11.4 mm and Sirsa 3 mm.
