Delhi HC seeks centre's reply on rights for denotified tribes

New Delhi, Feb 12 (IANS) The Delhi High Court on Wednesday directed the Central government to file reply on a petition seeking constitutional and legal rights for denotified, nomadic and semi-nomadic tribes.

A Division Bench of Chief Justice D.N. Patel and Justice C. Hari Shankar sought response from the Ministry of Social Justice, Ministry of Tribal Affairs and Department of School Education and Literacy on the petition.

The plea, filed by Salek Chand Jain, through his advocate J.K. Gupta, sought a direction to make schemes for the de-notified nomadic and semi-nomadic tribes.

"To make scheme and proposals for the basic education of de-notified nomadic and semi-nomadic tribes," the petition sought.

Jain has also demanded the government to provide permanent housing, Below Poverty Line (BPL) and Aadhaar card for the tribal communities.

"To make schemes and proposals for the medical faculties, economic development and rehabilitation to the tribe," demanded the petitioner.

The plea also demanded a separate academy with a sole motive to preserve art, culture, sports and indigenous knowledge, handicrafts, handlooms of the tribe.
