Gopalakrishna Gandhi as Opposition candidate:Supported by CPM

Delhi:Former governor of West Bengal,Mahatma Gandhi's grandson Gopalakrishna Gandhi is likely to be elected as the Opposition candidate in the presidential election in July.Gopalakrishna Gandhi was named in the internal meeting of the Opposition and the talks were basically discussed.It was Mamata Banerjee's only proposal that earlier she had nominated Gopal Gandhi's name as Vice Presidential candidate.Opposition sources have also said that the CPI (M) is a strong ally of the Trinamool Congress.Gopalgandhi's name came as the CPM leader Sitaram Yechury met Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik last week in Bhubaneswar,sources said.Opposition leaders Sharad Pawar,Congress leader Meera Kumar and JDU senior leader Sharad Yadav are also considering the names. Mamata Banerjee will meet Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday to discuss the strategy to be followed in the presidential election.
