Lokesh highlights TDP's role for empowering women

Guntur: TDP national general secretary Nara Lokesh emphasised the need for financial and political empowerment of women at a meeting held in the TDP state party office here on Monday. Speaking on this occasion, Lokesh reminded that late chief minister his grandfather, NTR gave equal rights for women in the property and reservations for women in the local bodies and set up Padmavati Mahila University. 


He reminded that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu conducted Women's National Parliament to resolve their woes. He said that thousands of women are working in the software companies in Hyderabad because of steps taken by Chandrababu Naidu and added that the TDP has always given respect to women. He said though women elected as people's representatives, husbands are dictating terms to them and felt bad about it. “If woman are given opportunity, they will develop,” he said and cited the examples of his mother and wife. 

He said that two decades ago his mother was worried about development of Heritage Dairy. After few years, with lot of hard work, she became an expert and developed the company into a multinational company. “My wife Brahmani is also working hard and developing the company in a big way and extending financial assistance to me,” he quipped 

He said that he would have loved a sister growing up, but when he discussed this matter with his father, he was told that 35-lakh women in the state are his sisters. After marriage he wished that he would be blessed with a daughter but was blessed with a son.  He urged mothers to educate their girl child and send them to foreign countries for higher education. He reminded that after his marriage, his wife Brahmani studied for eight years in foreign countries and said by giving importance to her career and she is now able to manage business on her own.
