Visakhapatnam: The district administration has geared up to meet the proposed State-wide lorry strike from Thursday by transporting essential commodities well in advance to make them available for the public.
District Collector Pravin Kumar, who conducted a review meeting on Tuesday with Transport, RTC, Police, Civil Supplies and Lorry Owners’ Association representatives in the wake of the proposed strike, directed the officials to ensure that essential commodities reached all ration shops by Wednesday evening. Also, adequate stocks of petrol and diesel should be kept in petrol pumps and it should be ensured that daily supply of rice, milk, water and vegetables was not hindred.
The vegetables to rythu bazaars could be transported by RTC buses, he said.Regional Transport Officer Venkateswara Rao said that the strike call was given by lorry owners’ associations of five States in south India.
There were 10,000 lorries plying in the city. A control room has been set up to prevent many untoward incident, he said.
