Review : Cheliya – Love Breeze
Director Maniratnam’s yet another classic Cheliya released today worldwide and audience are pouring in their mixed response about it. Hero Karthi and Aditi Rao Hydari are apt to their roles and AR Rahman’s BGM is the elevation factor. Here’s the movie’s review.

Story:The movie takes off from the time of Kaargil war in 1999 where Dr Leela ( Aditi) falls for a fighter pilot Varun (Karthi). However, certain situations make Leela move away from Varun. The love track is scripted in an absolutely amazing way. Here come the real twist in the tale, where Varun is jailed in Pakistan and how he comes out of all hurdles to win his love! Is the rest of the story.

Positives:

Cinematography
Lead pair chemistry
BGM
Lead Pair performances
Romance

Negatives:
Slow paced narration
Illogical scenes
Second half

Cast Performance:A big bow to the lead pair performances. Hero Karthi has been tough with a subtle look in the fighter pilot role and the way he acted is just beyond words. Actress Aditi Rao has been sizzling in every frame she looked and this debut for the South Cinema is too good. Her looks, acting skills are too impressive.Other characters did their best while the lead pair never let a moment to divert attention from them.

Technical Aspects:Director Maniratnam did an okay job with the story while he missed out quite a number of points to be justified as part of Karthi’s characterisation. The slow paced narration is another drawback.A R Rahman’s music is one of the asset while not many songs are impressive. BGM work is worth mentioning! Coming to spectacular camera work by Ravi Varman, each frame is so perfect with the stylish appearance of both the lead roles. The production values are top notch.Editing should have been better so that second half would have been much more appealing. Keeping aside logics, it is definitely a visual treat with a beautiful love story scripted!

Analysis:

We know that love is in the air, when it’s Maniratnam’s movie. Even though Cheliya has great romantic moments, the parallel serious track doesn’t compliment it. The confusion of Karthi’s characterisation is the one which pinches audience more. The first half is all thumps up with the romance, pacy scenes that work out so well but that second half is one which is bringing all the mixed responses!

Definitely a classic ! One time watch!
