High Court : Daughter-in-law has more rights than Daughter

The Allahabad High Court has ruled that the daughter-in-law will be the legal heir to all inherited property related to the family. Daughters-in-law or widows have more rights than daughters in the family.

The UP Government's Consumer Goods (Production, Distribution, Pricing) Act 2016 does not specify the daughter-in-law as a family member. Pushpa Devi, a native of the state, is a widow with two children residing with her Mother-in-law. There is a ration shop named after her mother-in-law Mahadevi. Pushpa Devi has petitioned the authorities to allot her the ration shop, which she inherited after Mahadevi's death recently.
